Countdown to SIE2016
SIE2004
Sabah International Business Conference (SIBC) was held on 8 September 2004. Its theme was BIMP-EAGA: Breaking Ground in the Global and Regional Economic Arena. His Excellency Fidel V Ramos, the Former President of the Republic of the Philippines presented a paper on "Strategic Directions for BIMP-EAGA in the Global and Regional Economic Landscape". Government and private sector leaders presented papers on growth in the following sectors in BIMP-EAGA: Palm oil; Minerals, Environment & Rehabilitation; Halal Food Industry; Supply Chain Management; Air and Sea Linkages; SME Development. A total of 363 delegates participated in SIBC2004.

Sabah International Expo 2004 (SIE2004) was held from 9 to 12 September 2004. The SIE2004 was very successful for the Exhibitors who took up the 133 booths at the Trade Expo. Over the counter sales worth RM5,057,600 were concluded during the four day Expo. Potential deals in the form of possible orders worth RM9,510,000 were also secured. Therefore total potential business deals worth RM14,568,660 were generated by exhibitors and trade visitors at the SIE2004.

Feedback questionnaires from the exhibitors were very positive. 98% of the exhibitors commented that SIE2004 fulfilled their expectations. 91% of the exhibitors considered the exposition effective in presenting their products and services to the trade visitors and the public. Most of the exhibitors commented that the SIE2004 exceeded their expectations.

There were 52 foreign exhibition booths. Therefore SIE2004 was certified as an International Exposition by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). This enabled Malaysian exhibitors (SMIs) to be able to claim for a 50% rebate through MATRADE under the Market Development Grant (MDG).

Foreign trade visitors came from: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, China, Croatia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Swaziland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

There was strong international participation at the Exhibition. The exhibitors at the 52 international booths came from the following countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Croatia, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
